Sustainability
Sustainability is of utmost importance to OLR. We believe it is vital to align business practices with the principles of sustainability to maximize positive impact and minimize negative environmental consequences. By prioritizing sustainable materials and manufacturing processes, OLR reduces our ecological footprint, conserves resources, and promotes responsible consumption. Embracing sustainability contributes to the larger goal of building a more sustainable and litter-free world for future generations.
Sustainability is at the heart of everything Operation Litter Ridder does. We engaged an external sustainability expert to conduct an assessment into our operations and business model to determine not only our impact on the environment and society, but to ensure we are best placed to thrive in a world rapidly changing due to climate change.
Our Eco-Fabric
We have chosen our materials mindfully. We have sourced the most eco-friendly fabrics and accessories and continue to look for ways to improve. We believe we can make our planet, our home, a better place and choose partners who have a similar vision.
Our primary fabric is made from Eco-rPET. rPET is made from recycled plastic bottles. Very fitting considering it is one of the items we collect most. rPET is light, durable, washable, mold resistant and highly versatile.
By using a process of turning recycled plastic water bottles into fabric each Litter Ridder keeps almost 100 bottles out of landfills. How could we not use it?
The Tongs We Do Business With
Every Litter Ridder backpack comes with a pair of eco-friendly Acadia wood tongs to help pick up litter. Acadia wood is sustainable because it is are a fast-growing and adaptive species. Acadia trees also capture carbon from the atmosphere and acadia products work as long-lasting carbon storage.
Acadia hardness, strength, and durability make it a practical choice. Acadia wood is also highly resistant to moisture and mold making it easy to maintain.
It is very light and easy to use making whether you are picking up a cigarette butt or a water bottle.
Less is More
Using RPET rather than virgin fabric we substantially lower CO2 emissions, water and energy!
